Transform any space into a dramatic display with the 48x24x48 arboreal enclosure — whether showcased in a living room, office, or professional facility. Steady temperatures, a true end-to-end gradient, reliable humidity: the stable conditions your reptile needs, in an enclosure finished like furniture.

Eight square feet of floor and a full four feet of height above it — room for a floor-to-ceiling rock wall, tall branch work and a planted canopy. Add staggered climbing shelves and the interior becomes a multi-level habitat, with vertical and horizontal gradients and enrichment in the climb between them.

Create a one-of-a-kind naturalistic masterpiece that becomes the highlight of your home or collection.

What comes with your 4x2x4 enclosure

  • Steady heat, humidity under your control. A solid top is standard, so the enclosure holds the conditions you set — humid for a tropical build, dry for an arid one, adjusted with the vents. Most setups run lower wattage than they would in a glass tank.
  • A frame that stays looking new. 3/4" HDPE, USA made, UV stabilized and colored all the way through, in seven finishes. It will not delaminate, chip, rot or swell, with superior scratch resistance. It also resists fingerprints.
  • Doors that glide. The glass rides on its own track, quiet and smooth, and the track continues down the sides of the opening for a finished edge. Both doors lift and tilt out for cleaning.
  • Glass you can trust. Two 1/4" sliding tempered safety doors with every edge polished, certified to ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category II and etched to prove it — the more stringent of the two federal categories.
  • Ventilation that moves with you. Four Adaptive Vents across the upper back panel. Every one takes a cover or a fan, so airflow changes as your setup changes through seasons and species. Covers and fans sold separately.
  • Panels built for the climate inside. 1/2" American-made PVC on top, bottom, back and sides. Holds temperature steadily and stays true in heat and humidity.
  • Built for bioactive. A 6" lower frame comes standard, deep enough for a drainage layer and real substrate for burrowing, and it keeps the glass track above the grit. An 8" frame is available in the options above.
  • Wiring that stays tidy. Six cord slots in the top edge of the back panel for UVB, LED, heat and probe leads.
  • Stacks without spacers. Two stainless steel dowels in our locking dowel system, which lines up across sizes so habitats, stands and hoods interconnect.
  • A clean finish all round. Color-matched screw covers, so no screw heads show.

Configure your 4x2x4

A deeper lower frame, perforated aluminum screen tops, lookout windows, side vents, climbing shelves, grommets, probe channels and custom cuts are all chosen at order time, in the options above. See every option explained.

Prefer fewer vents, extra probe holes or cord slots somewhere specific? Select it above, or email us and we will build it your way.

4x2x4 reptile enclosure specifications

Toad Ranch sizes are true-to-size exterior dimensions. A 4x2x4 measures exactly 48" x 24" x 48" on the outside, which is the number that matters when you are fitting it to a space.

Dimensions 48"L x 24"W x 48"H
Construction PVC enclosure with a 3/4" HDPE front frame and 1/4" tempered glass doors
Floor space 8 square feet
Volume 32 cubic feet
Gallons About 240 US gallons
Weight About 118 lb, varying with options

Species suited to a 4x2x4

Ideal size for arboreal species that spend their day up in the trees or a rocky outcrop with a bird's eye view. Ample space for adding small trees to root and grow, substantial branches to hunt and rest along, and enrichment at every level.

These species do especially well in it:

  • Green tree pythons
  • Emerald tree boas
  • Amazon tree boas
  • Carpet pythons
  • Prehensile-tailed skinks
  • New Caledonian giant geckos
  • Frilled dragons
  • Veiled and panther chameleons, with the perforated aluminum screen top
  • Smaller monitors and other lizards that climb
  • Juvenile redtail boas

Growing into something bigger? Enclosures are expandable, so a 4x2x4 can become part of a larger build rather than something you replace.

Assembly

One screwdriver, one screw size, no special tools. The front frame arrives pre-assembled with the glass track fitted; you fasten five panels to it. It goes back together at home the way it came apart here — same panels, same holes, same hardware.

Best Emclosure on the market

There are many enclosure companies out there, but none of them craft the durable/forever enclosures like ToadRanch. You get what you spend with them in quality. This review is EXTREMELY late as I wanted to have a nice enclosure to post, but I couldnt wait for the plants to grow in. This isnt dome, but you can see the possibilities.

Best Enclosure on the Market for Functionality and Aesthetics

After buying a juvenile jungle carpet python, I knew I'd need to get a larger enclosure. I looked at everything on the market, but nothing really had all the functionality I was looking for while also looking sophisticated/aesthetically pleasing. I've just finished my enclosure and I'm really impressed with the build quality, design and customer service- definitely the best enclosures on the market.

Excellent enclosure

I've had this enclosure up and running for about 2 months now, and it's quite nice. The build quality is excellent, the assembly is easy, and it has really become a staple piece in my room. I decided to go bio-active with this enclosure (my first bio-active), and I'm housing an adult northern white-lipped python (about 6 feet long); a huge upgrade from his 55 gallon tank.

The overall setup and configuration is as follows:
- Basking shelf
- Executive upgrade
- 2x 80W Arcadia Deep Heat Projectors mounted on the top, connected to Spyder Robotics Herpstat 2
- 35" Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED (Lumenize version)
- BioDude Terra Firma substrate
- Variety of plants and driftwood

Some things I've learned so far:
- 80W deep heep projectors don't reach the bottom of the enclosure. Temps down low are about 5 degrees above ambient, which end up in the upper 70s for me. It works well for my snake, as he explores the entire area and has even dug some nice tunnels in the substrate. If you need warmer ground temps, using a more powerful and directed bulb (like the PowerSun) might be necessary, or adding radiant heat panels lower in the enclosure.
- I opted for the basking shelf, and I have mixed opinions on it for this setup. It's high quality, sturdy, and easy to install, and while it makes a nice area for basking, especially in a tall enclosure, it blocks a lot of light from reaching the bottom-rear section of the cage. To be fair, that's probably true of anything large enough for basking. My snake does seem to like it, but it's worth considering. If you have a more true arboreal snake (emerald tree boa or green tree python), then I wouldn't get it.
- If you decide to go bio-active, you're not going to want use under-tank heating, so skip on the thermometer cutouts (I wasn't sure what I was going to do when I placed my order).
- If you have access to the enclosure from the side, the extra window is amazing. I am so glad I got it.
- Executive upgrade is costly (but so is the entire enclosure), but I am happy I did it. One thing to note, the side panels are really heavy, since they're a more dense material than the PVC. If you have a window cutout, they're not bad, but the solid 2'x4' panel on the other side is a beast.
- There are no feet on the enclosure. I ended up purchasing some really big felt furniture pads to raise it slightly off the ground and make it easier to slide around.
